On August 12th, from 7pm to 9pm, Athens KTC hosts Khenpo Ugyen Tenzin, the Abbott of our parent monastery KTD, in Woodstock N.Y . He will be assisted by translator Khenpo Jangye Trinley. This dharma teaching is open to the public and is in person only at our space in Serenity Roots, 8950 Lavelle Rd., Athens, Ohio.
Two thousand years ago on a mountaintop in northern India, Shakyamuni Buddha rested deeply in meditation. In his presence, one of his disciples asked the other, “how does a son or daughter of noble family train in the perfection of wisdom?”
The answer has reverberated through the centuries as a clarion call to practice wisdom and compassion. Chanted aloud daily by all the Mahayana branches of Buddhism, The Heart Sutra remains an enduring presence of enlightenment in the world and a means for us to free ourselves and others from suffering.
Khenpo Ugyen Tenzin will tell the story of this sutra, and show us how to use it to inspire ourselves in our daily meditation practice.
