Athens KTC meets every Sunday from 10:00 to 11:00. We have a rotating schedule of meditation and presentations. See the EVENTS page for what we are doing on a particular Sunday. We also offer meditation instruction.
No experience is necessary, all are welcome.
If you need directions, please search on our new address; 8950 Lavelle Rd. Unfortunately, Google has been sending people to our old address.
We begin at 10:00am by sitting together in silent meditation. Cushions and chairs are provided, so you can be comfortable. The session is opened with the recitation of the refuge prayer. Then we either have a short or long meditation. Check our EVENTS page.
Once a month after 20 minutes of meditation, we have a 20-minute presentation on a topic of Tibetan Buddhism. The EVENTS page will have details on which topic will be presented. There is time for discussion, and all are welcome to participate.
Interested in a deeper look at Tibetan Buddhist ideas? We hold a weekly book club on zoom. Join us on Tuesday evenings from 7 to 8:30. On January 16, 2024 we are starting the book Awakening Through Love by John Makransky. Email the Director at athensktcemail.com for the zoom link and more information about our meeting format.
On the first Sunday of each month, instead of studying we chant the Chenrezik sadhana, a prayer of compassion. All are welcome and no special knowledge is required.
On a regular basis, we have the opportunity for a Lama or special teacher to offer us a teaching on a specific dharma topic. These occasions are an incredible opportunity to meet with and learn from skilled an experienced Buddhist teachers from our lineage.
The only time we are not open on Sunday is when the Athens County Sheriff issues a Level 2 or higher snow emergency. Please stay home and stay safe if the weather is not cooperating!
